Why “Jubilee” Resonates With Juneteenth

A word associated with celebration: “Jubilee” has long described a special anniversary or season of joyful celebration. In biblical tradition, Jubilee also carries themes of liberty, release and restoration.

A natural thematic connection: Juneteenth commemorates emancipation in the United States and has become a celebration of freedom, culture, family, achievement and the continuing African American story. For the Juneteenth Freedom Cruise™, the name Jubilee therefore carries an especially fitting resonance.

A Carnival name with history: Carnival launched the original Jubilee in 1986. That ship later sailed from Galveston in 2002. Carnival revived the historic name for today’s Carnival Jubilee®, which entered service in 2023, linking generations of Carnival history with a new era of cruising from Texas.
